PRAISE FOR CACTUS FLOWERS
THE TORONTO STAR
Geoff Chapman
“Cactus Flowers is a treat.”
Vocalist Yvette Tollar’s debut CD Cactus Flowers (ROM04) is a treat, and you can hear music from it at it’s official release show tomorrow at Harbourfront’s du Maurier Theatre. Her basic band has brother Ernie on flute, Dave Restivo and Bill Brennan sharing piano duties, bassist Rich Brown, drummer Daniel Barnes and Gord Sheard on various instruments. It’s Tollar’s singing and lyrics that catch the ear, with a soulful delivery and good use of poetry – even borrowing from William Blake on “Poison Tree. “
